Today was a beautiful fall afternoon with perfect temperature and calm winds. The trees along the Ninnescah River were turning color, and the water reflected golds and reds at every turn. My wife and I kayaked the smooth water, moving silently and enjoying the day. Wildlife was everywhere, and our quiet boats caused little disturbance as we slid up the river.
At one point, we were treated to a couple of deer crossing the river ahead. Insects and spiders hung in the colorful vegetation along the banks, and blue-winged teal buzzed our course. Red-winged blackbirds flew overhead, and birdsong added to the wonder.
It was a terrific way to spend a glorious evening. The Kansas outdoors is always waiting with special gifts, and there are so many ways to experience it. Go adventuring. Find new ways to love Kansas.
