Winter days that are sunny and 60 degrees should be spent wisely, especially when they fall on a weekend. You can record your sports games for watching later, but it’s not often when you can enjoy the Kansas outdoors in spring comfort while observing the natural world in seasonal hibernation.
Pick your favorite sport. Hunting, fishing, geo-caching, hiking, biking – all are avenues to enjoying the unique beauty of the winter landscape. I went kayaking yesterday, and slipping silently through the water was a great way to see winter wildlife close-up. Even great blue herons, normally shy and intolerant of approaching humans, seemed too lazy to get excited in the warm sunshine. I passed within 15 feet of two birds.
Days like these are gifts. Breathe fresh air and come to know Kansas in all its seasons. Make time to enjoy the outdoors.
